1. What happens at a Fusion gathering?
Fusion is an environment where single adults come to build authentic friendships and get connected. Fusion gatherings consist of about 30-40 people who meet together five times over the course of three months. During a Fusion night, connection is the focus. The first 30 minutes revolve around connection, including food, conversation, etc. The next portion of the night involves more structured interaction. Each nights programming is different, with possible use of a DVD clip, a trivia game, a service opportunity, etc. We also have the gathering break into smaller groups of six to eight people to have more conversation around the topic at hand guided by discussion questions that are provided for them. This creates the feel of a small group and, hopefully, encourages people to have deeper conversations and create greater connections.
2. What is the schedule for a typical Fusion cycle?
Fusion Gatherings meet five times over the course of three months, typically on an every other week schedule. Many of the gatherings also plan optional social events throughout the cycle on the off weeks in-between Fusion gatherings. The gatherings meet on Sunday nights for about two hours and are led by a team of volunteer Fusion leaders.
3. Why is Fusion cyclical?
We see the benefit of a Fusion gathering starting and stopping after a three-month cycle. This allows new people to jump in at the beginning of a cycle and to begin to connect with other new attendees, as well as those who are already connecting in our church. It is far less intimidating to enter a gathering with people who are also there for the first night. The start and stop of each cycle gives a fresh start with new and energized leaders and fresh faces for connection. The new energy each cycle creates is a great benefit to those attending.
