I first heard it when I was watching “Hotel for Dogs” with my family. I still remember the moment in the movie when all the kids were jumping up and down on a bed just being kids opening up their “Hotel” for unwanted animals. It’s got a pretty great message in it that I hope to find a place in our service somewhere. We’ll see. You can download the song here. Great Melody. It will make you smile.

I get super jazzed about the release of new albums from friends. Todd Fields, Cori Moon, Kristian Stanfill have all released some great stuff these last few months. Well, now Eddie Kirkland has released a brand new album called “White Flags”. Eddie is our music director here at North Point Community Church. He is an amazing songwriter, worship leader, and artist. This album however tells a different side of Eddie. We listened to a couple of songs as a team and we sat there mesmerized by the words. It’s a very personal, heartfelt album with lyrics that speak of life everyone can identify with and music you don’t want to end. You can check it out here.

One of the best decisions that was made at Drive ‘09 was having our very own Jarrett Stevens (DJ Tanner) spinning the records 30 minutes before the 3 main sessions began. Of course, he needed his own walk-in graphic. So of course we made him a little something. Special thanks to Nick Holloman from Black Sheep Boy for making the still logo.

9. Anything can happen live anywhere!! (Video screens not working, people rushing the stage). Things Happen!

8. Even at the best concerts, people start milling or walking out when there is a lull. Think of the people that start to walk out of your church as the closing song begins. (For North Point and campuses - people like to get to their cars early) It happened to all three of the bands.

7. If you use video screens for your backdrop of your service….

- USE SOLID COLORS and change them up. Very powerful with lights.

6. If you use video screens for your backdrop of your service….

- Incorporate Black. so the screens don’t get diluted with something ALWAYS showing. Black (nothing on the screens) is a very POWERFUL tool so you can make a punch when you want EVERYTHING in - (say on a Chorus).

5. People do not like to stand behind me in a concert.

4. Bison Burger is GOOD.

3. Image Mag is a GOOD THING.

2. White spandex does not work on ANYBODY! Even from 100 yards out!

1. No matter how great your musicians are - if they are going through the funnel of a BAD AUDIO MIX then they sound mediocre, bland and boring. Mutemath and Alanis’s band were short changed because of HORRIBLE mixes. Brutal. It’s good Alanis had some hits that we could hold onto. She was amazing.

So I haven’t “pimped” anybody’s blog since I started this addiction as I feel I am not really worthy of enough experience to “pimp out”. But i did want to give a shout to a BRAND NEW BLOGGER named Reid Greven. Reid is the associate music director at North Point and pretty much handles the band members. When I say handles, I mean taming. I not only get to work with Reid every day but he is also a member of the unofficial North Point Fantasy football league (purely entertainment) which I head up.
Reid’s from Canada so cut him some slack. He is amazingly talented and loves God. If you have anything to do with music in your church, put Reid in your rotation of blogs to visit.

One of the hardest and most important elements of ANY video is the soundtrack. It is CRITICAL and something that I am very anal about. About a year and a half ago I ran across the guys from Blue Fuse music. This is music that you WANT to listen too and the media guys from all campuses have WORN IT OUT. Their website is so easy to navigate through and listen to their whole library. You can hear and download songs via the web or they will send you the whole CD library for free and continue to send you more music as it comes in. Yes there is the typical corporate sounding stuff, drama stuff and a couple of other “interesting” CD’s, but if you listen to the “Undertones” section you will be SOLD.

If your interested in a year long deal, talk to Angelo at Blue Fuse and tell them Brad from North Point sent you. He will hook you up and even give you a deal (It’s either a year long license or individual drop prices). I am not making a dime off this, I just think their stuff rocks and want to make sure that anybody in media or creative arts that works in a church has the opportunity to have great tracks. If you have heard of any other library that would benefit everybody, please share.

Enjoy.
