“Our desire for safety runs against every noble human endeavor.” – Tacitus
What do you think about that quote?
There are tons of applications I see for it in my life. In countless instances it couldn’t be truer.
One place I see it play out is design and service planning at church. Our biggest successes were delivered on the back of a risky idea. The stuff we sit around and celebrate, the things we show people when they take a tour or attend a conference, at one point all of it was a potential disaster. Yes, sometimes things didn’t go right and somewhere those are recorded on tape forever. But where would we be without mistakes. We’d be safe and boring.
Where have you taken a creative risk lately?
I’d love to steal it from you. (Saves us from having to put ourselves out there : )

We typically have 8-10 announcements in our weekly bulletin. A couple weeks ago we had 19, which I typically would’ve weeded down to 10, but decided make it work and really switch up the style. I replaced our typical “This event for these people at this time and place” to a highly narrative solid block of text. Anyone who read it, liked it - there were some who didn’t read it at all, and some of the older folks just plain couldn’t read it. It stretched us and I’m happy with the final product. I’m not sure where it falls in the category of “success” or “disaster.” See for yourself! http://www.lifecenter.net/mediafiles/bulletin.pdf/
