Valentine’s Day fell on a Sunday this year. We decided to take advantage of this opportunity to let our volunteers know how much we love them.
First, we created a valentine card for both Waumba Land and UpStreet. We asked parents and staff to write a special message to their volunteers and let them know how much they appreciate them.
Then our staff got busy creating the atmosphere!
UpStreet looked lovely!
Waumba Land was sweet!
We made sure that we told our volunteers how much they meant to us at every turn!
We “sweetened up” their normal breakfast a little bit!
Our staff wore special t-shirts so that our volunteers couldn’t miss the message!
Our staff from both Waumba Land and UpStreet took a simple idea and created a great celebration of our volunteers.
It doesn’t cost a lot to let your volunteers know how much you love them.
* Paint for the windows
* Streamers
* Chalk to write messages on the chalk boards
* Balloons
* Valentine cards
* T-Shirts for staff - only if you want to!
* A little planning
* And…a little hard work!
When you celebrate your volunteers in such a public way, you communicate to both kids and parents the value that you place on those who serve. You also create an easy way for parents and kids to say “Thank you!” “We love you!” “You are important to me!” These words are invaluable.
Not to mention that you create a super-fun atmosphere!
Valentine’s Day does not have to fall on a Sunday for you to take advantage of this fun idea!
