Baby Dedication: Changes!

Why did you change BabyD?

Last year we made a pretty big change to our baby dedication event. We had been doing this event in the same way for several years and felt like all of our staff was having to dig deep for the energy to put into this event.

Whenever we find ourselves manufacturing energy towards something, then we know that it’s time to take a good look at what we’re doing. Not that we don’t all get tired.

But ministry should flow from an excitement or passion for the purpose of  what we are doing. When you lose that, it’s time to take another look.

I’ll share what the changes were in future posts. But for now, here’s why:

We thought that the event lacked purpose.
As time went by, our staff felt like we were throwing a really great party for the families who participated in baby dedication, but weren’t really sure what the “win” was for the event. Especially when we considered the money and time that went into making baby dedication happen.

We knew this event could be leveraged in the lives of our parents to a much greater purpose.

We wanted to initiate a partnership with parents.
Parents with new babies feel pressure to get this parenting thing right. They are seeking wisdom, support, encouragement, and a plan.

This was prime time to reach out and begin a relationship with parents that we hope will last a lifetime.

We wanted to encourage parents to imagine the end.
If you are a parent, you know that those early years are filled with sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and doctor visits. You rarely get to eat a meal sitting down!

Time passes quickly, and it’s so easy to become immersed in the pressures of the here and now. We wanted to leverage this event to inspire parents to be intentional with their kids, with their marriages, and with their time.

We wanted to help them look a little further down the road. We wanted to help them do the things today that will really matter in the future.

What are you manufacturing energy for? What needs to change?

I would love to hear what you guys specifically do for Baby Dedication. Baby dedication is always a big event for us simply because of the numbers but we would like to do something different. We are definitely in a rut.

It’s been 4 months! ;) Do you have any more info for us about the details of what you do or an outline? Even a rough one! We’re feeling the same way, like we’re just going through the motions…we’re in desperate need of a revamping!
