Be Intentional!

During the summer volunteers will feel the need to take time off with their families, change up their service hour or possibly even serve in another area.  Because their routine is not consistent they may feel disconnected and insecure about their role in the church. During this time it can be hard to connect due to vacation and work schedules. I find this a great time to make a personal investment on an individual level.jmp_0505

Each week I select three people to connect with relationally either by email, personal note or a phone call. I start by creating a journal/log of who I have seen, talked to or haven’t heard from. If I know they are teenagers I will connect with them by text, Facebook or email.  If they have kids and stay at home during the day, I will make it a point to call them. If I don’t know them very well, I may drop them a note. Another connection point is to be available to talk to volunteers between services. This allows opportunities to find common ground and insight into their lives. This will allow you to make a personal connection with your volunteer, invest in them and keep them involved in the church family.
We rely on relationships to cast vision, build friendships and make life changes. This takes time, energy and intention. So BE INTENTIONAL!
